BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: This summer join us for Deep Nature Connection in the wilds of Cherokee Park. Our earth skills adventures will root us into the earth, our community and ourselves. We will tune into our bio-region by learning ways to communicate with what is around us, the birds, the plants and trees, the animals, and each other. We will remember how we can deepen our relationship to this living web.
CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Dance, Music/Band, Fine Arts/Crafts, Weightloss, Team Sports, Academics, Adventure, Wilderness/Nature, and more. Naturalist Skills, Plant Identification, Animal Tracking, Bird Language, Nature Awareness Games
CAMP LOCATION: Cherokee Park is a 409-acre (166 ha) municipal park located in Louisville, Kentucky, United States and is part of the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy. It was designed in 1891 by Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of landscape architecture along with 18 of Louisville's 123 parks. Beargrass Creek runs through much of the park, and is crossed by numerous pedestrian and automobile bridges.
CAMP PROGRAM INFO: This summer join us for Deep Nature Connection in the wilds of Cherokee Park. Our nature based summer camp earth skills adventures will root us into the earth, our community and ourselves. We will tune into our bio-region by remembering ways to communicate with what is around us, the birds, the plants and trees, the animals, the human ecology and how we can deepen our relationship to this living web.
Our program inspires skills of awareness and listening, teamwork, and empowerment as we learn Ancestral Crafts such as basketry, water vessels, clay cookware, and making natural pigments. Primitive Skills include building debris shelters, flint-napping, cordage, and friction fires. Plant Wisdom- Identifying edible and medicinal plants, medicine making. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have Fire Tenders Program for 13-16 yr olds interested in mentoring and nature connection.
